Napton Flight

15 miles 12 locks We are on the way to the Cutweb annual rally. We spent most of yesterday tidying up the boat, which largely consisted of removing hundreds (I’m not exaggerating)  of spiders and their webs! When were here last for the Fairport do we prepared and primed some of the rust patches on

Fairport

For the last few days we have been at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention. We stay on the boat and walk in each day. It’s been really great this year as it’s the 50th anniversary of the founding of the band. Lots of former members came back and they played together in various combinations.

Cropredy Marina

10 miles 7 locks In order to beat the forecast rain we set off just after seven again. Two other boats moored near us had the same idea. So there was a convoy of three heading for King’s Sutton lock. We were number two. Soon after the first lock the leading boat caught up with

The Pig Place

We are moored above Nells bridge lock, opposite the small campsite/smallholding/farm shop called “The Pig Place”. The forecast for today was for rain this afternoon, so we set off at around our usual time (7:05), but actually the rain didn’t materialise. There were quite a few boats around, but no delays until we got to

Kidlington Green lock

26 miles 13 locks A long day today, 10 hours. We started at 7:15 and didn’t stop until 17:25. We even had lunch on the move. It’s been hotter today than the last few days, particularly this afternoon. We were delayed for quite a while at Abingdon. We wanted a pumpout, but the boats in

Aristotle Bridge

Before we did anything else today the boat had to be cleaned. So we moved a few yards to the lock and washed the dirtiest side that we couldn’t reach last night. All this was at 6:30 am ! A really good day weatherwise. To start with we saw far fewer boats than yesterday, but

Heyford Common Lock

We arrived at the marina yesterday and found these next to the boat. Some shopping for foood and stuff yestarday then an early night. Off and away at 7:30 in a lovely bright and sunny morning. At only the second lock there were 8 boats (4 up and 4 down including us). But it calmed

Fuel polishing

When we had the engine services before Christmas Clive mentioned that our diesel tank was rather contaminated with water and crud. He recommended that we have the fuel ‘polished’. This is achieved by passing the fuel contents repeatedly through  a series of filters. We contacted Tankbusters who came today to carry out the polishing. It

Napton Top Lock

Another cooked breakfast ! Then journeying on to just opposite the engine arm at the top of the Napton flight. We are due to meet up with some other Cutwebbers in the Folly Inn this evening. We will walk down the locks as we dont have time tomorrow to get back to the marina if we

Fenny Compton

We arrived yesterday after a ride up across the Cotswolds in the cold and wet. I tried to get the Eberspacher going, but it wouldn’t fire up. Got the fire going instead. This morning, after a cooked breakfast,  we reversed back across the marina to top up with fuel and get a bag of coal.
