The rivers here flow from Lake Brienz into Lake Thun. They are crystal clear aqua colour and flow very fast. A few people were brave enough to get in, but we just dangled our feet. Quite a bit of time was spent in the many chocolate shops. We didnt buy any, it’s very expensive, but the air conditioning in the cool shops was welcomed.

View from our lunch spot

Today, Sunday we caught another bus in the opposite direction and went to Nuehaus. This is on lake Thun. Firstly we took a walk along the lakeside to a nature reserve. It was mostly through woods and gorgeously cool. Then back to Nuehaus where there is an hotel with a cafe/bar. Sor we sat here for a while with Aperols. Back at the campsite now just chilling out, if its possible to ‘chill’ in mide 30s temerature.

25/6/26

We are at a small site just outside of Brienz, we’ve been here two days. The journey here involved climbing up and down steep winding roads over the mountains. Bertie did very well, but at one point we were crawling along in second gears for about 2 miles!

I was last in Brienz in 1968. I came here as part of a Youth Hostelling trip. Coincidentally the Youth Hostel is right next door to the camp site.

Our pitch is right alongside the lake with amazing views of the lake and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. WE have walked into Brienz town three times. On the first day for a mooch about and some shopping, then again in the evening for a meal. Yesterday we walked in again to view some of the older parts of town that we missed the first time. Heddi has had two swims in the lake, I did a bit of paddling to cool off as it’s been VERY hot. We have spent the afternoons sheltering in whatever shade we could find.

A typical street in Brienz

22/6/26

View from Bertie’s pitch

Last night’s views were stunning, but tonight’s are stunninger! Neither Bertie nor I really enjoyed Lucerne’s traffic system!

21/6/26

Now in Switzerland, we are not that far from where we were yesterday, just across the other side of lake Konstanz. After breakfast we went first in search of a fuel station to top up the deisel. Then off to find tonights site, it only took about 45 minutes. The site is on a small rural farm overloking the lake, with wonderful views.

We have spent almost all day here just admiring the view, and watching Black kites, Red kites and buzzards soaring, swooping and diving over the lake – wonderful

20/6/26

We are back in Germany, but we have seen Switzerland. Today’s journey was a little fraught. To start with a wrong turn as we were leaving Strasbourg meant quiet a detour just to get back to where we started. Not long after the satnav directed us down a road that hadn’t ben built yet. We re-routed around in a circle to arrive at the same place, twice! Eventually we got going, only to later meet another road closure. So after some frantic re-directing we got onto the right road which took us winding up through a pretty, green, wooded valley.

On arrival at tonight’s stop it was clear that it wasn’t quite what we had expected. The searchforsites app had said that it is directly next to the Lake Constance circular cycle path, and so it is. But the cycle path is not directly next to the lake! We had hoped for a lake view, it was not to be. We did find a path that led down to the lakeside and rested there for a while and had a drink in a cafe. We could see Switzerland across the lake.

19/6/26

We are still here in Strasbourg. Today was us doing the tourist bit. We set off to ‘do’ Strasbourg. The helpful people at the campsite gave us a map and told us how and where to get of a tram to the city centre. On arrival at the tram stop the first problem was that the ticket machine wasnt working. A helpful local told us to download the CTS app onto our phone and buy tickets that way. So after stuggling with the app for a while and giving it my date of birth, address, credit card no etc I tried to buy two tickets – no go! We walked back to the campsite and asked someone at reception for help. He couldn’t understand it either. But he did tell us of another way to buy tickets online- that worked!

We arrived in the city with no idea where to go. Google maps directed us to the Tourist Information who provided a map and a walking route tour. We set off. A very pleasant four hours was spent exploring the city including a while having lunch in a pavement cafe.

On arrival back at the campsite we attempted to chill out a bit, rather difficult to do in 35C heat. It’s now about 8:30 and things have cooled down a lot.

18/6/26

Guess what, we are in another country, this time France. We are in Strasbourg. In general we dont plan that much and we dont book ahead, but we knew that this site, right in the heart of the city, was likely to fill up. So before the trip started we booked two nights here. Two nights because tomorrow we plan to explore the city. Last year we were on a Rhine cruise that stopped here, but we didnt do the city tour. So our plan is to do that tomorrow.

It’s extremely hot, we are wilting even in the shade. The temperature is in the mid thirties. This is a big organised site, not like the ones we usually stay at, but it’s the only one available. But there are showers etc and we get electric hook up, so it’s useful.

17/6/26

Yet another country. We are now in Germany at a place called Hornbach. It’s just a little sleepy village, but some volunteers maintain a small area for Motorhomes.

The journey here was in two parts. The first part was through the Luxumbourg counryside. We passed along country roads in steep green wooded valleys. Unfortunately this turned into fast crowded German motorways. So the last hour or so wasnt very pleasant.

On arrival we found a pitch in the corner with the shade of some trees – lovely. So the usual lunch of bread and cheese, with maybe some wine, was taken and we settled down for a quiet afternoon. This was shattered around 3 o’clock. What we didn’t realise is that next door was a children’s playground. It was now full on noisy children. So we packed up and I drove Bertie to another part of the site as far for the noise as we could. It was much more peaceful there, and we had a lovely evening and a good night’s sleep

16/6/26

Another day, another country. We are now in Luxembourg. The journey here was mostly by motorway. The Belgian motorways are nearly as crowded as ours. A short stop for fuel and a supermarket mid morning, then on to the site.

The landscape changed a lot from the flat western Belgium. We climbed quite high up into a forested area with steep ups and downs. The entry into Luxembourg was along a tiny road, hardly more than a cart track! There was just a line of stones in the the road surface to indicate the border.

This is a proper campsite with toilets, showers etc, but it’s quite small and quiet. We were lucky to get the last pitch with a good view over the wooded valley. After lunch we did a walk down to a local lake (maybe a reservoir). The walk back up was very steep and tiring!

We cheated a bit for our evening meal. The cafe/bar on site did takeaway, so we had some chips with our sausages.

15/6/26

Yesterday’s journey from home to Kent was not uneventful! All was ok until after the stretch through Bracknell. As we went to join the M3 there was a tailback and signs warning of a collision on the M20. So it was slowish around the M25, and crawling, stopped at times, on the M23. But we arrived at the CL near the Tunnel about 6ish.
Our Tunnel slot this morning was at 7:55, but we actually went at 7:20.
The journey through northern France and Belgium consisted mostly of diversions due to roadworks. So it took us almost 4 hours! The ‘camping-car’ place is acually the car park of a small marina alongside a canal. The canal has been quite busy with commercial craft, large barges.
We had lunch, then went for a walk along the canal. A bit of a chill out in the afternoon, followed by an early evening beer in the litle restaurant on site.

View from Berie’s back doors

27/6/26 We are now at a site just outside of Interlaken, we arrived here on Friday, we had previously booked two nights.
