The Vehicle

We couldn’t really make a start until we had a vehicle. But what sort of vehicle.
We narrowed it down to three basic types – a standard panel van, a Luton style van and a minibus.
The problem with the first two was the need to install windows, which we thought was probably stretching our competence. Standard panel vans are available fairly cheaply, so maybe we could afford to have the windows fitted professionally.  A Luton van would offer a lot more space but would need to have a side door fitted and the rear roller door removed. Again probably a job for a professional.
So it was decided to look for a suitable minbus. We wanted to be able to stand up in it, so it had to be a high roof model. Also to get in all the stuff it needed to be a Long Wheelbase one.
The hunt was on for a high roof, LWB minibus for a reasonable price, not too far away!

We found two. A Ford Transit minibus at Stonehouse, and a VW LT minibus in Bristol. We looked at the Transit first. It was 15 years old, but in good condition. It had a wheelchair lift installed at the back. The VW was newer but not in such good condition. It was longer which would make fitting all the stuff in easier.

Heddi wasn’t at all impressed with the VW, so we had a second look at the Transit.
We made an offer and, after a bit of negotiation, did the deal.

Here it is:
