Somerset 2023

5-6/9/23

After a walk upon North Hill with Caroline we set off for Exford. We chose the ‘pretty’ way up over Porlock Hill! Bertie did well, though it was 2nd gear most of the way. As we approached Exford we saw sings for “Pick your own Blueberries”. So we parked up and set off. It was a long walk uphill in the hot sun, but we found the place and picked a punnet full and left our money in the honesty box.

In the centre of Exford is The White Horse Inn. As we passed Heddi said “Jo and Eric often stay there”, and send Jo a picture saying “guess where we are”. Jo soon replied and we were all surprised to find out that just by chance they were staying there that week! So later that evening Eric picked us up from the campsite and we all had a lovely meal in the White Horse.

The rest of our time here was spent going on long walks over the glorious Exmoor countryside.

We set off for Minehead and arrived mid morning. After a look around Caroline’s building site, we had some lunch then went for a walk around Minehead. After a long search the evening meal was taken in “The Quay”. Probably one of the worst pub meals we have ever had!

We are on the way to Minehead to see sister in law Caroline’s new house. We thought that we would make a little holiday out of it. So on the way we have stopped for one night at Langlands farm.

The views here across the Somerset level and over to Glastonbury tor are amazing. After setting up and having some lunch we set off on a walk across local fields. All was going well until we came upon a flooded lane. Luckily we were rescued by the son of the farmer whose site we are on.
