Hertford

Only a short cruise today, 3 miles and 3 locks. We arrived in Hertford at about 11:30. As Hertford is the head of navigation the intention was to just do a bit of shopping, have lunch then turn round and head back down the Lee. But we are in no hurry and have plenty of time to get back to Little Venice by the 9th, so we decided to stay here for the night. It’s very pleasant and we have got chatting to our nieghbours on NB Salamander. They are continuous cruisers and have been here for a couple of weeks, due to leave tomorrow.

We spent a while wandering around Hertford town centre. It’s a pleasant compact town with lots of proper shops, and there was a busy market in progress. I found a hardware shop and bought a smart new lump hammer to replace the one that is now at the bottom of the river Wey.
