Barrowford top lock

We have reached tne summit of tne Leeds and Liverpool. This is highest we’ve ever been by canal.

A slightly later start at 7:10, it was cold and cloudy not at all like the previous days.

We made good progress through Burnley and it’s suburbs. It looked very sad with decay and dereliction everywhere.

I was hoping for good views from tne famous embankment, but you cant really see much.

We knew there was a Morrisons in Nelson, and we had been told they have their own moorings. But overshot and had to reverse back quite a way. We weren’t impressed with Covid awareness of tne other shoppers. Many weren’t wearing masks and those that were didn’t have them over their nose.

The bottom of Barrowford locks was reached about 1 o’clock and top just under two hours later so we didn’t get lunch until three o’clock.

There are ample, really good moorings here so we decided to stop for the night.

Barrowford reservoir is almost empty this early in the season.

Level very low
