Branston Water Park

We had an early start and were away by about eight. There were lots of boats about, but we got through Fradley without having to queue for long. A stop was taken in Arlewas for a late breakfast (Full English). It’s a lovely village and we used to stop here years ago when we had

Handsacre

A really great day today. Only four locks, but got our exercise by going for a 5+ mile walk through Cannock Chase and then back via the Shugborough Hall estate. The footpath goes right through the estate, so we didn’t have to pay (though we couldn’t go round the house itself !). Then back across

Acton Trussel

A misty start, and rather chilly at first, but it soon warmed up and we had a great day. Busy with boats, meeting somebody at most locks. Whilst queueing at Gailey lock we bought a new tiller pin from the boat following us.

Compton

We are on our way up to York! This a big adventure for us, we have mostly stuck to the Midlands narrow canals in the past. We need to arrive in York before 15th Sept. as we are attending a friend’s wedding. We think the journey will take about 12 days, so we set off

Maintenance

We have spent the last two days doing various assorted maintenance jobs. Saturday was painting day. We touched up the side below the gunnels where there were  chips caused by workmen with strimmers flicking up stones. The front well deck also got a new coat of paint and also the locker at the back where

Wolverley Court Lock

A bit of a lie in this morning, we didnt leave Worcester until just before 9 o’clock. A fairly pleasant trip up the river. We shared all the locks with a Alvechurch hire boat. The family on board normally live in Thailand and were on holiday to show the children some of the British countryside.

Worcester – at last !

After over five weeks of waiting we have finally begun the trip back to Kinver! The Severn has been open for several days, but we have been on a pre-booked camping holiday in Devon until yesterday. So today we drove up to Parkend and started the journey back. We locked out at Gloucester at nine

Still Waiting

We spent another night on board at Parkend. Over the weekend we have been off on a family camping trip to celebrate our son-in-law’s birthday. We came straight from the camping trip to here to check all was OK. The original intention was to make another attempt to go up the Severn, but the weather

Back at Parkend

The level hasnt dropped, but worse from our point if view, Upper Lode lock is closed as the level up there is too high. There was no point in waiting, so we cruised back to Parkend. We really need my car next weekend as we have a family camping trip planned for Paul’s birthday –

Gloucester docks

Back in the docks again to see if the water levels allow us up the river tomorrow. It’s been a lovely warm day with plenty of sunshine. We arrived at Parkend about 2 o’clock and came straight up here. I spoke to the Gloucester lockie this morning who said that the level had dropped to
