The Hatton flight awaited us so we made our usual early start and entered the bottom lock at 7:24. We exited the top lock 2 hours and 56 minutes later. No bad for two 60+ old codgers! It would have been slightly quicker but we had to wait for boats coming down at two locks.

Warwick

An easy day today. We had planned only to get to the bottom on Hatton locks. As we were ahead of schedule this was only a short day. So some general boat tidying an cleaning to start with the off by 9:30. A short stop at Morrisons for supplies, followed by a full English breakfast

It’s been a really wet today. The forecast wasn’t good so we set off early thinking that we were going to get wet anyway, so we would rather get it over with and be able to dry out later. There were very few boats about so we did the first 18 locks on our own.

We are off on our extended summer cruise heading for Llangollen. Yesterday I fitted a new solar panel and controller. We did a few other jobs then set out early this morning. The plan was stop just below Marston Doles locks, but the weather was lovely and tomorrow’s forecast is for heavy rain, so we

Various visits

Over the winter we have made various visits to check on things. In February we came twice to allow two different companies to come and measure up the floor. We wanted to replace the carpet with Karndean. In the end we went for a local Banbury company who did the job in Amtico. We are

Cropredy

Yesterday was down to Thrupp for an excellent meal in The Boat then neck to moor not far from last night’s mooring. Today a chug back to the marina in chilly and damp conditions. When we got to Banbury there were hundreds (no exaggeration ) of canoeists. They were mostly young teenagers, obviously involved in

Bridge 192

Jan & Mike arrived about 10, after their satnav had completely misled them regarding the location of the marina! With there stuff unloaded and the car parked we set off south down the canal towards Oxford. A brief stop in Banbury to top up with supplies hen off for a very pleasant cruise down to

Recently at the Cutweb rally Tony Brooks (www.tb-training.co.uk/) noted that he thought our rudder was loose. I had noticed it appeared to wobble slightly as you went from left to right. After talking it over with various people it seemed the likely problem was the two bolts holding the rudder on to the shaft had

Bridge 130

For the past three days we have been at the Cutweb rally. Much chatting, drinking and eating was enjoyed by all.   At about 7:30 this morning we started untangling JH from the other boats. We had already agreed with Brian on Harnser (http://nbharnser.blogspot.co.uk/) that we would go with them at eight o’clock to share

Blue Lias, Long Itchington

Our usual early morning start and a very pleasant run down the rest of the Napton flight. I think it must me pensioner’s week for the hire companies. All the hire boats we met had more ‘mature’ people on board. I suppose that the rates go down after the school holidays. As we approached Calcutt
